SVILC is a Device Lending and Demonstration Center through Ability Tools, California’s State AT Act program. These centers can be found throughout California, which contract with Ability Tools to provide short-term loans of assistive devices and gadgets that can help you live independently. Whether your need is temporary or you would just like to try out some devices before you buy, each of the Device Lending And Demonstration Centers can provide free, short-term loans for up to 30 days of equipment such as portable ramps, AAC devices, magnifiers, computer software and more.
Device Lending and Demonstration Centers can ship most items to borrowers throughout California. To see what devices are available in Silicon Valley, please visit the NATADS Public Access website.
If you have any further questions about this please contact our AT specialist at at@svilc.org
1-on-1 Training and Use of AT Devices
Meet with our AT specialist to conduct an AT Service Intake to determining appropriate and available equipment to be borrowed. Per request, our specialist may provide a brief training on using the selected items.
Voice Options (VO)
The California Voice Options (VO) Program connects residents with speech-language disabilities to iPads with installed speech apps. The resident can test out the speech apps, select one that best fits their needs, and can apply for a permanent iPad for their use at no cost. Contact our AT Specialist for more information on how you, your client, or your family may qualify.
AT Workshops and Demonstrations
Our AT specialist partners with local schools, community centers, and other organizations to educate on what assistive devices are, where to find them, and how to use them. We specialize in training on how to use your smart devices and how to access accessibility features.
Home Modifications
SVILC has limited funding available to assist with minor home modifications such as the installation of grab bars or ramps. Contact our AT specialist for more information on how you may qualify.
Financial Assistance
SVILC works with third-party organizations to assist those individuals in need of medical equipment. Medical justification is required. A request is not guaranteed, or funding may run out during the month of your application.
Equipment and Device Donation
We accept gently used to new equipment as donations, which are re-donated to those in our community in need. Due to storage limitations, we are unable to accept large items such as hospital beds. Contact our AT specialist for more information on donating or arrange for pick-up.
